About This Spot

Stepping into Athens Cafe feels like uncovering a quiet corner of Mediterranean flavor tucked away in a familiar neighborhood setting. It’s the kind of spot where the pace slows just enough to appreciate friendly smiles and the comforting hum of a local eatery that’s been quietly serving for some time. The space carries a modest charm — familiar, unpretentious, and inviting in its simplicity — a relaxed pause rather than a polished showcase.

Here, the focus is warmly on the food that speaks softly of Greek tradition and everyday pleasures. The air carries subtle hints of fresh pita bread and the earthy aroma of herbs, setting the stage for a meal that unfolds in generous portions and honest flavors. Whether you’re sharing plates that blend grilled kebabs, crisp salads, and vibrant hummus, or sailing solo with a gyro that echoes memories of a sunlit afternoon in Greece, the offerings aim to feel approachable and satisfying rather than flashy.

The atmosphere invites you to linger over dishes made for sharing — a culinary introduction that brings a little taste of the Mediterranean to Robbinsdale’s West Broadway. The friendly staff add warmth without fuss, making it easy to relax into a meal that feels like a gentle exploration rather than a rush. While the decor and setting aren’t the centerpiece, their humble presence allows the genuine human moments and comfort food to take the spotlight.

Athens Cafe quietly champions the joy of simple, steady enjoyment — a place where the focus remains on good company and thoughtfully prepared dishes, all wrapped in the familiarity of a local neighborhood spot.

Would definitely not dine-in here unless you like abandoned mall aesthetic. Counter staff was super friendly and recommended the shared platter which was a hit. The selection of meat and veggies felt like a good intro to their offerings. Nothing is going to blow you out of the water but it's consistent and good portions. They also sell some grocery type offerings.

All around solid restaurant for Mediterranean cuisine. The flavor and bang for buck factor here are hard to beat, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. The staff were friendly but the interior atmosphere was a bit dingy and outdated. The falafel were crispy and delicious, though lacked flavor compared to other falafel I’ve had. The hummus was rich and satisfying but a bit too runny. The star of the show was the Athena chicken, which was well-marinated, grilled to have a slight char, and very tender, juicy, and flavorful especially alongside the sautéed onions and banana peppers. The portion was enough for a full lunch and leftovers for dinner. The pecan pastry was also a standout item, notable for how sweet, flaky, and buttery it was. The chocolate almond roll was a bit dry, as if it had been out too long. Overall I think 4 stars for this place is very fair; I’ve had better, but I did not regret eating here. Some items were just okay, others were great.

We just went to Greece and we really enjoyed the food we got here for lunch! The portions were great and the staff was very friendly.

The last gyro I had was in Greece until I had one from Athens Cafe. And it was exactly how I hoped it would be - huge bites of Greece. Called for takeout so can’t rate atmosphere. Very pleasant and quick on the phone. Thanks for satisfying my gyro craving!

Good gyros for good price, the people were also nice. Nice little mom and pop shop.

This place is CLASSIC! Our family has loved coming here for over a decade. We love also getting the platter dinners when we host a last minute family gathering and want allllll the flavors.

Crazy good. Do not sleep on this place. It’s a hole in the wall which is probably how they keep the prices so low.
